Most people these days know the danger of going out in
public defenseless should they become the victim of an attack. That is why
people are increasingly searching for non-lethal weapons of self-defense to
carry for self-protection. Finding such
self-defense weapons is not hard-there are various companies on the internet
that offer a variety of self-defense products. But there is more to it than
just finding and purchasing a non-lethal weapon; one must also know how to use
and practice using their weapon, so if they do have to defend themselves, they
know exactly how to use their product. Many companies such as ours at Best
Protection, offer a blog as well as information on the website that gives
customers the information they need to know to get maximum value out of their
self-defense product.

Security Cameras in the home or business setting are fast
becoming as common as other appliances or office equipment. With the rise in
crime and increase in robberies, people are becoming much more aware of the
need to buy and set up a security camera system for protection. Police cannot
be everywhere and even when they are at a crime scene, they have a much better
chance of finding and catching the perpetrator if they have evidence such as
video of the crime in action.
There are a variety
of security camera syste
ms
available and in various price ranges. Wired systems
are more economical than wireless and there are systems anywhere from one
camera to 16 camera systems available. There
are hidden cameras, cameras designed for various types of weather, as well as
vandal-proof cameras. There are even dummy cameras for those who cannot yet
afford a system, but want to allude that a system is present and working.
For those who are shopping for a security camera system, it
is best to look over the selection of cameras available and then talk to a
security specialist who can answer your questions and make sure that you are
selecting the best system for your needs which will get the clearest image and
video footage. An inexpensive camera may not be the camera of choice if the
image produced is blurred as you want a sharp clear image to help law
enforcement, should your home or business become the next site for criminal
mischief.

02/13/2012 03:00pm — If every
homeowner purchased and installed a security camera system, crime would fall 10
percent, Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney recently told the local media.
Speaking with Orlando CBS affiliate WKMG, Rooney said home
security systems including security cameras would help police solve
burglaries faster and reduce the number of break-ins. A new unit in the Orlando
Police Department is taking advantage of new crime fighting technology to more
expeditiously put wrongdoers behind bars. Cops still work on cases the old
fashioned way, but cases without video are more difficult to solve, Rooney
said.
Security cameras have helped solve a number of cases in Orlando recently,
according to the news source, including a recent string of burglaries in the
Delaney Park area.

When talking about defensive sprays usually pepper spray
comes to mind, but what many don’t know is that pepper spray is not legal in
many states. So before you choose any defensive spray, the first step is to
check the laws of your state to see what is and what is not allowed under the
law for self- defense. Once, you find this information out, you can then
proceed to find out more information about the various defensive sprays and
make a knowledgeable choice as to the defensive spray that you feel most
confident in carrying and using.
Tear gas comes in various compositions, one of which is not
available to the public. One form of tear gas that is available is chloroacetophenone or more easily
called CN. This defensive spray is not actually a spray but crystals in a
liquid base under pressure, to it creates a vapor when engaged at an attacker.
Its effects occur within 3 to 30 seconds in which time, the attacker could grab
the tear gas and use on the victim. Tear gas causes irritation to lacrimal
glands and mucous membranes causing an immediate release of mucous from all
orifices rendering the attacker helpless as his eyes swell shut and tearing
also occurs. If your aim is not directly on target, this product will still get
to the attacker as the vapors drift and get to the eyes and mucous membranes.
This particular chemical, however, has proven ineffective at times with
attackers under the influence of narcotics or alcohol and might not be the
product of choice for this reason.
Pepper spray, on the other hand, also called oleoresin
capsicum, is a derivative of chili peppers and is combined in an oily base due
to the fact that is not very soluble in water. With pepper spray, one must
aimed at the eyes or inhaled to be effective, but there are types of pepper
spray devices such as foggers which can help with this, as with the fogger, one
just points and shoots and the pepper spray gets to the attackers eyes and
necessary points of contact. While tear gas may take 3 to 30 seconds to become
effective, pepper sprays effects are almost immediate and last anywhere from 15
to 45 minutes. The criminal’s eyes swell shut and coughing and tearing ensue
allowing the victim time to get away. One draw- back with pepper spray is that
when used in windy conditions, there is a chance some of the spray may blow
back on the user. Pepper spray’s effects wear off after a few hours whereas the
effects of tear gas can last for up to a week due to its chemical composition.
Many of both the tear gas and pepper sprays come with UV dye which can often
times help law enforcement in catching the criminal by dye identification.
There are combinations of tear gas and pepper spray which
combine the benefits of both sprays into one product. As with the information
above, this may be the best product of choice provided both are legal in your
state of residence.
At Best Protection, we carry both tear gas and pepper spray
as well as a combination product. You can see these products at http://www.personalsecuritycompany.com/Pepper_Spray.

Like many women, I love the color pink and know it is a
color designed with women in mind. So when you find a personal security product
in pink, you think this is a great product for women to carry. Such is the
pretender stun gun in pink. It is a hot item with the ladies as the color has
drawn more than one woman to it and it has become a have to have product. This
particular product is designed to look like a common cell phone in a pink case,
but it is much more than that. Rather than being a cell phone, it is a stun gun
disguised as a cell phone and has a built in LED flashlight to ladies to use
when searching in their purse to find keys, etc.
The pretender cell phone stun gun comes in a very attractive
pink case that seems to draw the ladies to it.
When carried on their person, though, it is a powerful personal protective
weapon that renders the attacker helpless and offers the time needed to get to
a place of safety and call law enforcement for additional assistance. Because
of its design, the attacker is caught off guard because they are expecting a
cell phone and have no idea they are about to be stunned by a 4.5 Million volt
stun gun.
A great feature of this particular stun gun is that it has
two built in levels of safety-a safety
switch which must be turned on to the on position for the stun gun to work
properly and a trigger button which must be pushed for the stun gun to operate.
These features can be important for women with children who want to carry a
protective weapon but want to be sure that no accidents happen when their
children are nearby.
The pink holster or case is free and it also comes with 3
free CR 2 batteries which is a $12.00 value free. This is a must have
protective product for all those ladies who want to be in style yet still keep
themselves as safe as possible. For more information on operating a stun gun I
am enclosing a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbgq9nx_PAI.
Take a look at this stun gun and you will find it a must have too. And the best
part is it is on sale for the month of February 2012 but is always available on
sale or not. Visit Best Protection at http://www.personalsecuritycompany.com/Tasers–and-Stun-Guns/Pretender-4.5-Million-Volt-Cell-Phone-Stun-Gun/84.html.

Many of my regular readers have noticed that I have been absent for a week or two. I guess the only way I can explain it is that I checked out for some grieving time as I lost several close friends within a matter of two weeks. As in the title of this blog, there are personal security devices for protection that can prevent loss of life or serious injury and that is something I am a true advocate of. However, there are times when loss cannot be prevented, as in the loss of my best friend and her husband to a fatal car accident. Then there was, two weeks later, the loss of my elderly friend who granted was in her 80’s but none the less will be sorely missed. It was during this time that I reflected on loss and how hard it really is on the ones left behind.

My husband, Bill, and I got into the business of personal security because no one should have to experience the loss of their life prematurely if it can be prevented. In today’s society, there are many individuals who are out seeking money and objects which can be sold for money and they have no conscience as to how they go about getting to this money. They will hurt, maim, or even kill to get the money they need mostly for drugs, and if someone gets in their way the results could be tragic. To prevent this, we wanted to offer a place where one could go to find the type of personal protective device they felt best suited their needs to keep themselves safe. There are a variety of devices to include pepper spray, tear gas, stun guns, Tasers, personal alarms, batons, and more. There are many different types of personal security devices you can carry to protect yourself from becoming the next victim of a criminal assault.Yet many persons still go about their daily lives unprotected opening up the possibility of becoming the next victim of a crime.
As I stated earlier, loss is hard to bear and I hope anyone reading this blog understands that some loss can be prevented. It only takes a little forethought to become prepared should the situation arise where one needs to protect themselves from becoming hurt or worse. We each owe that much to the ones who love and care for us to carry some type of personal protective device. There are too many other times as in the instances of my best friend when loss of life cannot be prevented. I certainly miss my best friend as we shared a lot- our children and their problems as they grew up, our problems, our happiness, our sadness, and most of all the fun times we shared and yes, I will always have those memories. But I sometimes find myself thinking about how many more memories could have been made if her life was not cut short at an early age. But it was and it is my loss to bear and move on.
They say that sometimes when you are a blogger, that you need to let your true personality shine through and I am showing my feelings, I know, in this blog. But I felt I needed to let my readers know that I had not abandoned them, but rather took a period of being human to heal from too many losses too quickly. I know many of you have experienced similar situations to mine, and my thoughts go out to you. And I hope that this blog has also created some fuel for thought to those who have loved ones who would be devastated to lose a loved one prematurely when it could have been prevented. To those, please take action and guard yourself against any form of criminal abuse. Life is precious and we want to enjoy each and every day we are blessed with.

I came across an article tonight with some interesting statistics. The article outlines why security camerass are so important for maintaining your home and business security. The following exerpts were taken from the article:
Security Cameras Can Bring Peace of Mind
What I found interesting were the following paragraphs:
It’s three am, you suddenly awake to a nose outside. Your adrenalin kicks into high drive. Is an intruder trying to get into your home? Fear takes over and you move in the darkness to view your security camera monitor, piercing through the darkness, the cameras scan the outside of your home. Suddenly you notice something moving in the bushes outside your child’s bedroom window! Your heart pounds, the panic intensifies, when you realize it’s actually just a stray cat making it’s nightly rounds of the neighborhood. The cat looks right up at the camera and meows, as if to say, “Sorry, just me.” and moves on down the street.
The adrenalin turns to relief. You peak in on your precious children and return to bed, being reassured that the investment in a home security camera system was a wise thing to do.
This in itself describes what you can feel when you think your home and family are in danger. The other paragraph that caught my attention was:
Here are a few facts about home invasions and burglaries. Each year more than 2,000,000 home burglaries are reported in the US. According to statistics renters are as likely as home owners to become property crime victims. Homes that are not protected by the presence of security systems, including visible cameras, are 300% more likely to be burglarized then those that have visible security in place. Just the site of a security camera is a deterrent to most professional criminals.
I hope this information gives you fuel for thought and if you have not yet considered a security camera system, you do so now. News and articles are flooding the news and internet on crime statistics and security cameras are proving their value in detecting unusual activity so help can be called as well as giving picture details of criminals so they are readily caught and your possessions retrieved if your home is struck while you are gone. I came across this article tonight and wanted to share it with my readers. There are many uses for security cameras and we have all read on how how security cameras are used for nanny cams, spy cams and home and business security and more. But this article outlines a rather unique use and one that is dear to my heart as an avid animal lover. In this article, security cameras would be used to deter people from just dumping animals out on the street, even when the Humane Society is right there. I, myself, have rescued more than one helpless animal and I just get so upset when I hear that another animal has been abused or left to fend for itself. I will enclose the article below and hope it becomes a popular use for security cameras all over. If it saves animal’s lifes it is really worth it! No animal deserves to be treated poorly.

Humane society wants security cameras to deter animal dumping
There are signs posted all over the property of the Franklin County Humane Society that read, “No dumping”.
Staff say the signs are not working because animals are being dropped over in the overnight hours almost every week.
You can tell by her behavior that a black dog, now called Diamond is scared. She was dropped off last night and attached by a leash to the Humane Society’s chain link fence.
“It was about 7:25 and she pulled up to find a dog tied to the gate outside. Of course, it was raining all night last night. We’re not sure how long the dog had been out there,” says manager, Angie Stewart.
According to Humane Society staff, Diamond is lucky to be alive,”Tied to the fence for one thing, they could strangle themselves.”
While Diamond is a healthy dog just in need of a good home, there are other drop offs, like Zeus.
“Just last week, there was a puppy found in a trash can. He is nothing but skin and bones,” adds Stewart.
Zeus is a survivor, but he’s also part of a growing trend of animal dumping in Franklin County. Staff at the Humane Society are trying to raise the funds for security cameras to put a stop to the problem,”If we had some kind of surveillance it would deter people a little bit from dumping them. You just shouldn’t be able to do something like this and not have any consequences.”
Zeus and Diamond are now waiting each waiting for a second chance at a good home.
The Franklin County Humane Society no longer has a surrender fee for people that want to drop off their animals. Staff are frustrated that people would dump an animal when they can drop them off during business hours free of charge.
Let’s hope this stops some of the animal abuse!! Bill and Marie @ Best Protection!

Crime is all around us and unfortunately in the present economy, crime is on the increase as criminals seek means to obtain whatever they can and when they can from unsuspecting victims. At a time like this it is everybody’s responsibility to stay alert and carry whatever personal protection they need to keep theirselves safe and prevent becoming the next crime victim. Staying alert and aware of your surroundings is paramount to keeping yourself safe. Look around you and be aware of thick bushes or other places that would give a possible assailant cover. Carry yourself with an air of confidence. Criminals are looking for easy prey and not for someone who might put up a fight or more!
Some people carry a keychain pepper spray on their person to have ready at a moment’s notice. Others carry a personal alarm. These alarms are designed to set off a high decibel sound that will attract attention and hopefully get the attacker running. Many of these alarms are also equipped with a flashlight which is handy for finding keys inside a dark purse or other items in a hurry. There are a variety of mobile security devices on the market and visiting a security store will give you a better idea of what is available and which fits your needs. If you do happen to get caught by an attacker without a weapon handy, always remember keys can be used as a weapon to punch at the criminal at a sensitive area, so that you may be given enough time to get loose and/or get away to safety. If you are near your car, most new keys have a built in alarm but you have to be in close proximity to your vehicle to have it work.
When you do go out, remember to lock your home up and then lock your vehicle as soon as you enter. Keep your windows up and never get into your vehicle before first looking inside to ensure no one is in hiding in the vehicle. If possible, it is best to have someone to go out with instead of alone, but that is not always possible. If you do go out alone, remember to park in an area of activity and not in a desolate or quiet area. If you are shopping and feel unsafe, you can always ask the security guard to walk out to your car with you for added safety. Avoid carrying a purse if at all possible and carry only the minimum you need. Try not to carry a large amount of cash and dress casually so as not to draw attention to yourself.
When home, do not leave valuable lying about. Most security companies have a variety of diversion safes that offer a great place to store money and valuables safely out of sight. Again keep not only your doors, but also windows, garage doors and any other possible entry ways for thieves and criminals closed and locked. Security cameras are a great asset for keeping an eye on your yard and home at all times and prices are now reasonable. If you are considering some type of camera security system, be sure to talk with a security store expert before purchasing, as each camera system has various characteristics and when purchasing, you want to be sure you get the type of system that will perform to your expectations and that you are satisfied with. Have a peep hole on your door and ask who ever approaches who they are and what they are there for. Do not open the door if you do not trust the person on the other side and always ask for identity and/or badges from service people.
A great idea that has been taking root is organizing a neighborhood watch system where those with security cameras take turns keeping an eye on the vicinity and notify neighbors of anyone or anything suspicious. If possible form a group to go to the Laundromat, or for shopping or errands, again, so you are traveling in a group instead of alone. Groups tend to ward off assailants who are looking for that lone person as their next victim for a crime.
I hope this article gives you some food for thought and some tips on how to stay as safe as possible. No one wants to become the next victim of crime and with a little forethought and insight, this will never happen to you!

we get a lot of questions regarding how hard is it to install a security system and my answer is not hard at all and you can do it yourself. The easiest type of system to install is the wireless surveillance system as it is essentiall a plug and go system providing your cameras are positioned how you need them to video the areas you desire. I did come across a site that has some additional information that you may find helpful so I wanted to include it in today’s blog so you can get access to the site and information.
To see this info go to : http://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-install-a-wireless-home-security-camera
A sample of what you will find is as follows:
How to Install a Wireless Home Security Camera
what you’ll need
- Security Camera
- Drill
- Pencil
- Screwdriver
- Step Ladder
- Mounting Bracket
- Stud Finder
Install a wireless home security camera as a precautions to keep you, your family and your possessions safe. Below are some helpful tips about where to install cameras and how to safely and effectively mount them to your home.
Step 1 – Location Angle and Placement
Choose the right location for your security cameras before you even buy them. Pick a a spot where nothign will obstruct the view of your camera to ensure that your investment completely worth your time and money.
Once you have chosen the right location, you decide what angle will best suit your camera. Decide how high off the ground you want the camera to be. You may want your camera to be clearly visible or not easily noticed. Decide how much of your landscape you want your camera to capture, whether it be just the front door or the entire yard. Consider buying several cameras for fuller coverage or to install on various entry points.
Step 2 – Applying the Mounting Bracket
Begin by holding up the mounting bracket to your desired location. Use a pencil to mark the area where the screws need to go. If the screws need to be in a stud, then it is best to use a stud finder. Otherwise, use a drywall anchor bolt to hold your mounting bracket in place. The drill bit that you use needs to be a little bit smaller than the screw that you use to mount your bracket.
Hold the mounting bracket into place while you put the screws in pre-drilled holes, or use the drywall anchor bolt.
Step 3 – Inserting Your Security Camera
Be sure that your mounting bracket is securely installed into the wall before you place your camera into it. From there, you will insert your batteries and read the instructions that come along with your camera on how to properly synchronize your camera to your base station.
Some additional information you can find at this site include how to properly postion your cameras, how to choose the camera that will meet your needs, and the basic functions of a security camera system. I hope you find this information helpful and I will continue to offer information as well as useful sites to meet your needs. If you have not visited our site, please take the time to visit us at Best Protection a http://www:personalsecuritycompany.com. I came across this article tonight which I wanted to share with my readers and hopefully get some feedback from parents. This personal security product is designed for children and looks like it is presently available in some retail stores. We would be interested in looking into this product as well as some similar children’s personal security products if there is interest from parents. As my children are all grown, I am seriously considering this for my grandson when he comes of school age.
The article is as follows:
Backpacks with alarms, ‘Rescue Me’ apps: Do kids need personal safety devices?
Published: Thursday, January 05, 2012, 11:00 AM Updated: Thursday, January 05, 2012, 2:10 PM
By Monica Scott | The Grand Rapids Press
GRAND RAPIDS — The commercial shows what looks like a middle school girl, being backed into the corner of a locker room by a group bigger teens. Just before the group reaches her, the girl grabs her backpack and pulls an alarm, scattering her would-be aggressors.
Cut to another scene, where a young boy hoists a similar backpack over his shoulder as he crosses a street. Over his shoulder, you can see he’s being followed by a slow-moving SUV.
In an age of increased awareness of schoolyard bullying and stranger danger, advertisements like these have caught parents’ attention. The latest crop of pint-sized safety devices include not only backpacks and bags with built-in alarms, but smartphone apps that send out an emergency signal to authorities and police and let them track your location.
But they beg the question — Do children really need personal protection devices?
Some West Michigan police and school officials say no.
“I don’t see any value to this kind of device in schools,” said David Britten, superintendent of Godfrey-Lee Public Schools, noting in the case of backpacks that students typically keep those stowed in their lockers during the school day.
“In my 16 years as an administrator, I can’t think of one incident that would necessitate an extreme device such as this. In our elementary schools, kids are accompanied by their teachers wherever they go.
“In middle and high school, teachers and administrators are in the hallways while classes are changing.”
Edric Sizemore, inventor of the iSafe backpacks and bags, which are equipped with a high-decibel siren and strobe light, say products like these can help kids and others flee a crisis or harmful situation, including fending off a bully or alerting someone to a medical emergency.
“Our objective is to attract attention, and the alarm is deafening,” said Sizemore, president of Inventive Concepts International in Elks Grove Village, Ill. “The backpack emits two high-decibel sirens and high-intensity strobe lights simultaneously. You pull a pin concealed under the flap of the shoulder strap to activate it.”
The iSafe backpack, which sells for $59.95, was launched last year. It is just one of the latest in personal safety products being marketed to parents and children.
Bob Friedland, senior public relations manager for Toys R Us, said the store began offering the backpack online earlier this year, in time for back-to-school shopping.
Sizemore said the backpack is also available through Amazon.com. His company also sells waist packs and messenger bags.
Courtesy ArtiSafe backpack
Operated by two 9-volt batteries, the backpack’s two 125-decibel sirens can be heard within a 100-yard radius and the strobe light can be seen from 400 yards away, Sizemore said. It’s not just for kids, but a safety resource for all ages, he said.
“You want your attacker to be startled or to alert someone in a crisis,” said Sizemore. “Essentially, we are selling peace of mind.”
His products aren’t alone in the personal protection market.
This month, Numa AS, a security firm based in Larvik, Norway, began offering the “SOS Rescue Me” app, which can be downloaded from the iTunes store. It allows people who feel threatened to click on an SOS button, and set list of contacts will receive a message with their current location.
The seed behind that project emerged last summer after a Norwegian political extremist killed 77 people, including teenagers, at an island summer camp.
“I really hope that we contribute in a positive way of stopping the violence,” said Steinar Bredesen, CEO of Numa.
Toys R Us declined to discuss its iSafe sales. Sizemore said the backpack is selling well here and overseas, but provided no sales figures.
When asked about these personal safety devices, an area police spokesman said while they may have their place in crime prevention, precaution and the community as a safety net also need to be factored in.
Lt. Ralph Mason of the Grand Rapids Police Department, said officers constantly share safety tips with parents, students and neighborhoods, so hopefully, they don’t need a device to summon help. He said people, regardless of age, often don’t think fast enough to use safety products.
“When things happen so fast, that’s the last thing you think about,” said Mason, who was unfamiliar with the backpack but added that it could have its place with the attention-getting alarm.
He said police encourage parents to prohibit their children from going places without a responsible adult, suggest reflector gear to avoid being hit by a car, and reiterate tactics that could be used by abductors.
As for bullying, police urge students to tell their parents, teachers and principals about incidents when they first begin — before they escalate, he said.
